High green leaf boot

BOOTylicious!

There is no doubt that footwear make the ladies crazy! Recently when Architect turned shoe designer Julian Hakes released his soleless heels he was overwhelmed with female fans demanding where to purchase a pair. Design is universal, whether it take form of cement construction or fabric fabrication…the certainty is to stand out – the sky is the limit.

.

With a unique and quirky sense of style that would be right at home in a Tim Burton film…it is no surprise that the directors leading lady Helena Bonham Carter is a fan of YDM trader Pendragon shoes. Set to sculpt your soles and support your shanks with stunning superstructures at the Young Designers Market in June….we get the low-down from stallholder Jackie and rise to dizzying new heights…

Boy Reading The Stroogle book

Boogie Woogie STROOGLE Boy

Not all designers at YDM are inspired to advise what fashion is in mode or how to embellish your abode. Some stallholders are storytellers…preferring to paint a picture in your mind

.

Busy Brisbane bard Dr Cameron Stelzer creates captivating characters and composes their adventures. His headlining hero has an impressive swag of six stories up his sleeve with the new “The Stroogle In Space” being released at the May YDM.

.

A great gift for any adventurous ankle-biters and their game guardians – as Mothers Day draws closer,  we find out more about the talented trader, not just adept at capturing the imagination of kids, also the creator of a unique universe…

Wind and Water (5)

Wind and Water

Fluid Fashion

This week Marc Jacobs unveiled a Cinderella-style ‘glass slipper’. The transparent pump illustrated even in our childhood fairytales, we were instructed that our bodies had to fit the fashion. As you grew, it seemed like a curse–why did the skirt that looked magical in the magazine make you look like the ugly stepsister?  Only apon real reflection, did you realise the fairest of them all was in fact yourself…with the discovery of your own personal style.

.

Wind and Water certainly knows this story. Clothes are in fact, meant to fit you as well as fit in with what you do…but functional can also be fantastical! This month we talk tales of trends with Irene from Wind and Water all while being taken to a classic style story far far away….

Spiritfire Designs

Revolving and Evolving

A literary legend once said “You can kill the body but not the spirit” which is spot on when it comes to fashion. Designers and icons may pass over to the afterlife but their art continues to thrive…and their brand grows to epic proportions. Whether classic or quirky, antique archives are more valuable including re-fashioned retro which is not only hot but ethical as sustainable style.

.

This is where trail-blazing innovators like Spirit Fire Designs truly carve a niche. Radically re-cycled and uniquely up-cycled, creating daring new designs with a sneaky peek of what once was. As we get all fired up for the March YDM we find ourselves in the spirit world with Nadine, the bright spark behind this eternal flame of fashion….

Sisterhood Sewing Birdcage owl

Featured Stallholder: Sisterhood Sewing

Sew hot right now!

.

How did this Owl trend kick in? Did Harry Potters pet begin the barrage? The circle to start the style seems to be those who have eyes for the bird that is wise – the preppy geeks. Indie & hipster camps soon swooped in to claim the stamp of the coolest creature of the night. Now it has crossed to couture including Cartier and Marc Jacobs.

The big-eyed, all seeing, ever knowing bird of prey is the muse motif for Sisterhood Sewing, the newest addition to perch amongst the Young Designers Market. As we fly high toward the February YDM, we get in a flutter with Elenor – the mystical bird behind our omniscient owl brand…

Australia Day YDM Cancelled due to Rain

As we approach Australia Day – the rain continues to “bucket down”. Unfortunately, we have no choice but to cancel the Young Designers Market planned for this day. This is a great disappointment to all the stallholders who had been working overtime to bring you the ultimate in fresh designs.

.

Please be sure to support them at the next YDM…just around the corner on the 5th of February.
