Orient: Expressed
YDM : July 6th, 2013

“There’s just something special about seeing a little baby all wrapped up in something adorable that puts smiles on people’s faces. Yumcha Child is created in colours and cute sayings that evoke happiness and laughter, something we should experience every day.  Adding a touch of cute to the little one’s organic fashion world is fun. Yumcha Child aims to do that with baby clothes made from sustainable and eco-friendly bamboo and organic cotton.” .
One of the longer trading stallholders at YDM, you can seek out Yumcha Child serving up the sushi-sized sets for the itty bitty at the market in July. We take a seat at the counter and chat to designer Suzie to get a taste of what is on offer…

Conceived in 2007 on a road trip around Australia, Suzi had an extensive fashion background and always wanted to be a small business owner.
“Being a proud Mum, my passion began. With a sprinkle of the east in my blood lines, I have always had an affiliation with eastern culture, oriental fabrics, a love of stir frys, sushi and yumcha!”
Yumcha Child are always appreciative of their customers and are sure to thank them for choosing Yumcha Child…a choice that is not just adorable and stylish. Those who purchase their products are helping to support a globally sustainable industry, and Suzie believes that combined actions can make a difference.

The journey began to find the perfect fabric to indulge little one’s in luxury while preserving the environment. After many late nights when our little princess Ruby was fast asleep, Craig and my research began. And so Bamboo was found. Bamboo fabric is a new generation fabric which is soft and silky and has many beneficial properties. Bamboo is perfect for babies delicate skin. It is hypoallergenic and antibacterial preventing odour, skin irritations and allergies. Not to mention Bamboo fabric is incredibly soft and snuggly. Yumcha Child is created in colours and designs that evoke happiness and laughter. Emotions that every baby should experience each and every day. Yumcha Child adds a touch of cute to the little one’s organic fashion world. And It’s all about the packaging!!!
What have been your highlights?
Last year I was very excited when I was contacted by Gaia Retreat and Spa to retail my products. This beautiful place is located in Bangalow and is owned by Olivia Newton John. My Yumcha Child products have been such a success they recently just placed their forth order. So I am secretly hoping Hugh Jackman or Kylie may purchase from there in the near future!!.Another highlight has been at the last Young Designer Market a Grandfather purchased a Miso Cute Sushi Pack for his Son who is a chef on the on the crazy show Iron Chef in Japan.
Why do you like trading at Young Designers Market?
I always look forward to the Young Designer Market this Sunday being such a unique event. I absolutely love showcasing my products. Young Designer Markets is an exciting day for me to meet other creative people, and the atmosphere is wonderful. I am busy preparing lots of packs with an oriental twist to delight. With a delicious visual menu on display, you will be forgiven for buying one of each!

So make a meal from the YumCha Child material menu – a perfect present for those seeking a special yet simple snack that stays with you long after dessert!
